Kundli (birth chart)

What is a Kundli?

A Kundli (Janam Kundli or birth chart) is a map of where the Sun, Moon and planets were at the exact time and place you were born. Vedic astrology divides it into 12 houses, starting from the Lagna (ascendant). Read more

How do I make my Kundli for free?

Open the free Kundli tool, enter your date of birth, time of birth and birth city, and press "Make Kundli". You get the Lagna and Moon charts, planet positions, nakshatra, Mangal dosha and Vimshottari dasha. No sign-up is needed. Read more

Can I make a Kundli without the birth time?

Yes. Tick "I don't know the birth time" and you still get your Moon sign, nakshatra, planet positions and dasha. The Lagna and houses need a birth time, so they are left out. Read more

How do I find my rashi (Moon sign)?

Your rashi is the sign the Moon was in when you were born. Make your free Kundli and it is shown at the top with your nakshatra and pada. If you only know your name, use the rashi-by-name letter chart. Read more

How do I find my nakshatra?

Your birth nakshatra is the lunar mansion the Moon was in at birth, one of 27. Enter your date, time and place of birth in the free Kundli tool to see it with its pada and ruling planet. Read more

What is the Lagna or ascendant?

The Lagna is the zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at your birth. It becomes your 1st house and changes about every two hours, so it needs an accurate birth time. Read more

Which ayanamsa and house system do you use?

Lahiri (Chitrapaksha) ayanamsa, the Indian government standard, with whole-sign houses and the mean node for Rahu and Ketu. Planet positions come from an open-source astronomical ephemeris.

Does it work for people born outside India?

Yes. The tool covers cities worldwide and uses the time zone and daylight saving rules that applied on your birth date.

Kundli matching

How many gunas should match for marriage?

Traditionally at least 18 out of 36. Our tool rates 18 to 21 as average, 22 to 27 as good and 28 or more as excellent. Nadi, Bhakoot and Mangal dosha are checked as well as the total. Read more

Can I match Kundli by name only?

Yes. Choose "By name only". The first syllable of each name gives a nakshatra and rashi, and the 36-guna score is worked out from those. It is quicker but less exact than matching by date of birth, and it cannot check Mangal dosha. Read more

What is Nadi dosha?

Nadi dosha occurs when both partners have the same nadi (Adi, Madhya or Antya), which scores 0 out of 8 in guna milan. Traditional texts list several cancellations, for example the same rashi with different nakshatras. Read more

Should a marriage decision rest on guna milan alone?

No. Guna milan is one traditional input. Families usually look at both full charts, and the couple's values, communication and respect matter more than any score.

Doshas, sade sati and dasha

What is Manglik (Mangal) dosha?

A chart is called Manglik when Mars sits in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th house from the Lagna or the Moon. It is very common, and tradition lists many cancellations. Our free Kundli checks it from both. Read more

What is sade sati?

Sade sati is the roughly seven and a half years when Saturn passes through the sign before your Moon sign, your Moon sign and the sign after it. It is a period of effort and maturity, not something to fear. Read more

What is Vimshottari dasha?

Vimshottari dasha is a 120-year cycle of planetary periods that starts from your birth nakshatra. Vedic astrologers use it to time events. Our free Kundli lists every mahadasha and antardasha with dates. Read more

Do you sell remedies, pujas or gemstones?

No. Our guides mention simple traditional practices such as prayer, charity and discipline, but we do not sell remedies and we never use fear to push a purchase.
